Colossians 4:6 “Your speech should be pleasant and interesting, and you should know how to give the right answer to everyone.”
This may sound silly but one of the greatest treasures I have outdoors in the backyard of my house is our Butterfly Bush. Sometimes when I am sitting on the back porch ministering to a friend the butterflies are constantly moving from one branch to the next branch. The stunning colors complement the bush with its beautiful flowers and rich nectar. The nectar attracts wonderful humming birds and precious butterflies of all sizes. The Butterfly bush smells so good and has such a sweet aroma that you smell its fragrance all season long. I love to sit and watch the adorable and amazing Humming Birds and butterflies in the afternoon.
The Butterfly bush is a very hearty and strong plant. Even when you prune it back very short there is almost nothing that you can do to harm the plant. You can prune it at anytime and it will survive. The plant has a very strong foundation.
Question:
Does your life have a sweet aroma like the wonderful nectar that attracts the Humming birds and butterflies?
How are you doing in this same area of your life? Who is attracted to your sweet aroma?
How is your speech? Are you pleasant and interesting?
How is your foundation? Do you have your identity in your Savior Jesus Christ? Are you secure in who you are in Christ?
Colossians 4:6 is a good reminder for us to watch what we say and how we say it. The second part of this verse is also a great challenge for us to study God’s Word so that we have the right answer for others when they ask us questions.
Daily Applications:
Each day let’s journal our answers to the following questions and write a short daily prayer of two sentences to God.
Day 1: Sweet Aroma: Do you have a sweet aroma of Jesus Christ that will attract others to follow Him?
Day 2: Security: Are you secure in who you are in Jesus Christ?
Day 3: Start: Everyday start with God. Pray for your day. Include God in on every decision you make today and all week. Before your toes reach the floor out of your bed, pray for God to be your guide and protect you.
Day 4: Submit to the Lord. Are you willing to follow God’s commandments?
Day 5: Share Jesus with someone today. Pray for courage and strength.
Day 6: Serve one person without expecting anything in return.
Day 7: Seek the Lord and read your Bible. May I suggest that you read a Psalm and Proverb each day as you write in your journal.
1 Cor. 10:31 “And, Lord, may whatever I do be truly for Your glory and Yours alone.”
Be encouraged as you walk through your week. God sees your heart and knows that you desire to be more like him. Continue to work hard, love much and serve many.
