Matthew 28:18-20 (MSG)
“Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life.”
One of my Dad’s favorite sandwiches is a good ol’ American hot dog. He grew up having a hot dog at every sporting event and cookout.
A few years ago, while Dad visited our family, we had a summer picnic. I decided to grill some hot gods for Dad, and went to the grocery store. So many brands of hot dogs! One brand caught my eye in particular, the “Hebrew National.” Even more profound than their brand name was their slogan:
“We answer to a higher authority.”
I chuckled, “Hey, so do I!” Of course, my curiosity converted me into a consumer-I bought the dogs. I have to admit the hot dogs were juicy and delicious. Even Dad thought so, but he is a man of tradition and still buys whatever brand is on sale.
So, here is today’s question: “What is your slogan?”
Do you answer to a higher authority?
If today's Christian would live like we answer to a higher authority, our lives and families would look different. When our lives are set apart for His use, the world will see the difference.
· This is what mentoring is all about. Helping others realize they are blessed and privileged to answer to a higher authority.
You may be asking:
· How do I do that?
· What does that look like?
· Where do I get this information?
Here is an example:
Young Woman: I just don’t understand how to hear God’s voice.
Mentor: No worries, this is a common question. I can give you an example. I am married and I spend all my time with my husband. I communicate with him and I know what he thinks and how he lives his life. When my husband calls me on the phone, he doesn’t have to say hi honey, this is your husband. You have been married to me 30 years and I……
You see, the minute he says my name I know who he is because I know his voice. I have spent quality time with him and know him inside and out.
As you spend more time in God’s Word you begin to learn His character. You will recognize His commands and His love.
You may want to suggest a short book of the Bible for her to study or begin a study like Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shirer. You can discuss one or two chapters a week.
A goal of every mentor is to lead others to a deeper relationship with Christ.
If you are a Parent or Grandparent you must answer the call on your life to mentor your children.
If you are a mature Christian you are also called to share Christ and your life experiences of your walk of faith with others.
Christ is the answer and God’s Word gives all of us the directions we need for life.
Daily Applications:
1.This week read one chapter each day of Psalms and Proverbs that corresponds with the date. For example: January 8,2012 so you would read Psalm 8 and Proverbs 8
2.Journal: select and record one verse from each daily reading that spoke to you the most.
3.Look for God in your daily routine of life and ask Him to reveal Himself to you in such a way that you will know who and what to share your faith.
