Psalm 37:23
"The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives."
"The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives."
Remember
the lyrics to that great old song by Rich Mullins “Step by Step”. The chorus was so strong and
encouraging:
Oh
God, You are my God, and I will ever Praise You
I
will seek You in the morning, and I will learn to walk in Your ways.
And
STEP BY STEP You’ll lead me and I will follow You all of my days.
I
loved to sing this worship song in church. I know this sounds corny but my friends and I would march in
place as we sang Step by Step. Actually, I confess, we created motions for all
the verses and the chorus. Oh those were the days!
Now
as I mentor so many other women, I realize that Rich Mullins’ lyrics are so
real and applicable to our lives even today. We really do need to step out for Christ and lead as God has
lead our generation into this new walk of life.
Each
and every mature Christian woman and man has received their personal marching orders from
the Lord in Titus 2 to become a mentor and now it is TIME TO STEP FORWARD.
God
has called you and He knows you can do this. He is confident in you and your
gifts. 1 Thess. 5:24
What
exactly is a mentor? According to Scripture, a mentor should be a mature
Christian willing and able to serve by giving a younger believer Biblical
counsel. (1 Kings 22:5) A mentor is to intentionally lead and
equip the younger person on the practical application of God’s Word. They must be a good listener and lead
others to Jesus for all solutions. (John 14:26) The one-on-one special time in
sharing together will always produce the best experience and the most growth in
every area of life. (Prov. 27:17)
Some mentoring relationships are long term and others are short, but God
is in complete control. (Eccl.3: 1) Scripture clearly states men mentoring men and women mentoring women.
I
know you may be asking the question, “Can God use me?” The answer is Yes! Lord! Yes! Don’t worry if you are not perfect.
Perfect Mentors do not exist and never will. Each one of us has grown in our walk with the Lord through
our mistakes and choices in life.
God has rescued us and wants to use us to help others. (Gal.6: 2) If your children are still at home at
this stage of life, they are your calling and your mentoring gift from
God. If you are not in that stage
of life right now then, step forward and ask God to help you mentor the next
generation in their walk with Him.
The
good news for today is that God has a plan and purpose for your life. God is NEVER LATE. No matter what your age or position in
life, God wants to use you to lead others in their walk with Christ. (Ps.
32:8) It is TIME TO STEP FORWARD and
say Yes Lord! I’m yours. Use me Lord!
God
has called us to change the world for Christ, one person at a time and it all
begins with you and I. All we can
do is give it our best and God will do the rest!
Matthew
6:10
“I
pray that whatever is Your perfect will for me in heaven will also be
accomplished in my life here on earth.”
