Zechariah 9:16-17
“The LORD their God will save them on that day as the flock
of his people. They will sparkle in his land like jewels in a crown. How attractive
and beautiful thy will be!”
One of our family traditions in the month of December is watching the wonderful movie musical White
Christmas. You may have heard the theme
song lyrics and can sing as you read:
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones I used to
know.
Where the tree tops glisten, and children listen,
to hear sleigh bells
in the snow.
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas with every Christmas card I write.
May your days be merry and bright. And may all your Christmas’ be white.
At Christmas time here in America, we traditionally decorate and trim our homes and
presents under the tree with colors of red and green or silver, gold and white.
Legend has it that each color symbolizes something special from the Christmas
story.
Red represents the sacrifice Jesus paid for our sins. Hebrews 9:22
Green is the color representing everlasting life and life
that is growing.
2 Peter 3:18
Silver is to remind us of the shining star over the manger
in Bethlehem. Matthew 2
Gold represents the glory and virtue refined by fire. Luke 2
White symbolizes God the creator as light, purity and hope.
Psalm 51:7 and Isaiah 1:18
The colors of Christmas are bright and vibrant and burst
through with celebration and joy. These colors are not in darkness, secret or
dull.
Nothing about the Christmas story was in secret.
God prophesied the coming of the baby Jesus 800 years before
it happened in Isaiah 9:6 and in numerous other places in the Bible.
When the Messiah was born, God sent angels to shout it out
and show up in the fields of Shepherds.
God miraculously lead the Wise men and a full caravan to
Bethlehem with gifts and servants for the world to see as they searched for the
baby Messiah.
And God is still pursuing and leading people to Himself
today as well.
As you observe the colors for Christmas over the next two
weeks remember what the colors represent and the true meaning of Christmas.
Keep Christ in Christmas.
In a world where the Christmas message and Christian faith
is under attack, strive to bring the true meaning of Christmas back into your
home, family, conversations and daily lifestyle and you will receive the
blessing that only comes from Jesus.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you
trust in him.”
Romans 15:13
“Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful
songs.”
Psalm 100:2
