Summer Heatwave

July 22

Hot!!!  All over America today we are experiencing a summer heatwave.  Many states are seeing record breaking high temperatures in the triple digits.  Everyone is watching as the thermometer is rising.  Mentioning the thermometer reminded me of a great quote by Corrie ten Boom.  Corrie is one of my favorite Christian women hero's of the faith.  She wrote a very interesting line in a devotional I read that says, "Sometimes I am a thermometer.......with all the needs around me, I go down.  But we must be thermostats, not thermometers."
A thermostat feels the heat and immediately cools things down by getting in contact with the air conditioner.  That"s what  we need to do too!  Instead of allowing the needs around us determine how we are going to live that day, we need to get in contact with God who is in control.  God is just waiting  for us to talk to Him in prayer and read His Word for our guidance and wisdom.  He desires to be our source of help in getting us through the heat of the moment or trial we are facing.
When the day is falling apart or seems to be spiraling downward I have to constantly remind myself not to worry and take it all to God.  It always amazes me how I don't even  notice, while in the moment, that I am being so negatively influenced by the stuff around me.   To be honest,  I have to remind myself to depend on God and not man and refuse to be on the world's roller coaster of emotions and thinking.  Sometimes I have to remind myself again and again to "start over Jayme!" I say a quick prayer (or long one depending on the issue) and talk with God,  trusting Him with whatever is going on that day.
I'm constantly learning and working on turning all things over to God.
How about you?
Are you a thermometer or a thermostat?
Be encouraged friend. God is faithful and He will do it!

1 Thess. 5:24
"Faithful is He Who is calling you (to Himself) and utterly trustworthy, and He will also do it (fulfill His call by hallowing and keeping you). (AMP)
