Weekly Devo: Attitude of Gratitude

Colossians 2:7
“Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”

Are you a thankful person? What is the first thing you think about when you talk with God? Do you have a complaining spirit, a broken spirit or a humble spirit?  Everyone wants to have a good attitude, but at times in our life we can fail at this miserably. If you struggle with forgetting to be thankful in your prayer life, guess what? You are very normal. God has given us numerous Scriptures to encourage us to have a heart of GRATITUDE.

During my prayer time it seems like all I do is “ask” God for something instead of having an ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE. This past week I met a wise Christian woman, Evelyn Davison, who is a true prayer warrior and very passionate about your need for prayer.  She challenged me to go on a “FASTING FROM ASKING” in my prayer life for 30 days. What a great challenge! So, I’m starting my prayer journal today.

Colossians 3:17 states,” And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

When I choose to pray with a heart of GRATITUDE, God gives me joy! Have you ever noticed how other people always gather around the ones who are smiling and have a contagious joyous attitude on life?

You may be asking yourself one of the following questions:

But, you don’t know my pain and sorrow. I just can’t even bear to look at others in their eyes or carry on a conversation right now. How can I have joy?

But, I’m tired of being fake and pretending that everything is just fine. Everything is not just fine.

But, I’m tired of being happy for everyone else. What about my hurts and the need for me to be lifted up?

God has a great reply for all of these situations. His Word states very clearly in Philippians 4:19
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” God knows your needs and will meet your needs to His glory.

Sometimes my intentional choice of Gratitude can be a very hard and difficult decision to make. When I set my mind on the Word of God and keep my eyes on Jesus my Savior, my attitude is better and pleasing to God. My thankful heart helps me reach out to others when I am mentoring my fellow sisters in Christ.

Question:
Would you consider joining me this week and strive to have an Attitude of Gratitude? Let’s watch God work in your heart and the hearts of others.  As you seek to have a grateful heart God will restore and refresh your soul as you read God’s Word and pray.

Daily Application:
The challenge this week is for each of us to do the following two things everyday:

#1. Tell God two(or more) people or things that you    are grateful for each day. (Every day you should
make a new list)
#2. Do not say one negative word about your family members or friends all week. Pray the positive words in Philippians 4:8. Write this verse on a 3x5 card and memorize it!

Eph. 5:4 “Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.”

Be encouraged my friend in Christ, God will help you with this weeks challenge as you seek His face.
