Matthew 2:7-8
“Then Herod called the Magi…He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me…”
King Herod was a foolish King. He knew that the Scriptures prophesized that a Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. It was told in Isaiah 9:6-7 and Micah 5:2 and now the Magi were following a star that was leading them to the baby in the manger. The prophecy was being fulfilled right before his eyes. He knew that this Messiah was significant. Yet, because of his pride and selfishness he missed Christmas. He didn’t want to lose his position or wealth in life so he was determined to kill the Messiah. It was all about getting ahead and staying on top.
How could it be that Herod knew this baby was from God and still rejected Him as the Savior he personally needed.
Herod was unable to die to himself and humbly admit he was a sinner in need of a Savior.
How about you? Can you honestly admit you are a sinner and need a Savior? Jesus was born, died and rose again from the grave for your salvation. The first question to ask is; do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God? Then the next question is: do you humble yourself before Him and ask for forgiveness? Ask Him to be your Lord and Savior of your life. Don’t miss the Jesus in Christmas.
If we are not careful, we too can become self-centered and miss Christmas. Jesus came for the entire world. The words to the famous Christmas Hymn are so appropriate;
“Joy to the world, the Lord has come!”
Jesus didn’t come for just the believer; He came for his enemies too. Jesus came for the entire world. We serve a great loving God.
Daily Application:
Day 1: Read Matthew 2 and choose today to follow Jesus and His ways.
Day 2: Sing all 4 verses to the song JOY TO THE WORLD and enjoy the victory in Jesus this Christmas.
Day 3: Today Read Psalm 98. This is the Psalm that inspired Isaac Watts as he wrote Joy to the World!
Day 4: Maybe like Herod, you know the Savior was born and you know that He is significant but you have not asked Him into your heart and life. Today choose to serve the living and saving Lord Jesus Christ. Ask Jesus into your life.
Day 5: Ask God to expose your heart and help you not be selfish or self-centered. If you ask and believe, you will receive.
Day 6: As the King or Queen of your household now would be an excellent time to humbly place God over your position. Seek to have God in your leadership and lifestyle.
Day 7: Run to the place of Worship this Sunday and sing to the Lord a new song of Praise!!!
