“Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, with all of your soul and with all of your mind.”
Bethlehem was filled with religious leaders and religious people. It would have been impossible for them to miss the huge caravan of camels, supplies, servants and the wealth of the Wise men as they entered into the city. But, the religious ones of Bethlehem missed Christmas.
The religious leaders read all of the Scriptures and knew the Messiah coming. The common people went to temple every Sunday and also heard the Scriptures read by their leaders. Most of them were regular attendees and heard the same stories in the Scriptures week after week. Who could blame them for being skeptical or oblivious to the truth right before their eyes?
No one really believed it was necessary to live a life for God or seek His face. Did you know God had been silent for the 400 hundred years between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Did God’s people give up and stop believing the message of the Coming Messiah? Every religious leader and common church attendee never even realized they had missed Christmas that night in Bethlehem.
Did you know there are children in America who have never held the story of Jesus at Christmas? Some children only associate Christmas with Santa Claus and reindeer. We have allowed the world to take Christ out of Christmas.
Every believer is responsible to present the real meaning of Christmas to children and the lost people of the world. As believers in Christ, we will be accountable for our public testimony of our personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Luke 12:8
“I tell you the truth, everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, the Son of Man will also acknowledge in the presence of God’s angels.
We must strive to not be like the religious leaders and common people in Bethlehem that missed Christmas. Instead, we need to shout the good news to our family, friends and neighbors that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and He is the real meaning of Christmas.
Daily Application:
Day 1: Reading the Bible is very important but you also must know the One who wrote it. Seek to know and have a personal relationship with Jesus today.
Day 2: Make today a day of thanksgiving to God for sending the Savior.
Day 3: Be intentional; seek to grow in the Lord today. Read your Bible and spend time in prayer.
Day 4: Can you tell Jesus, “I need a Savior!”
Day 5: If you are hurting and this time of year is sad for you for any reason, Jesus is the answer for you. No one endured pain and suffering like Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus experienced heartache, separation, hunger, pain, torture, humiliation and death. Take your hurts to the Savior who heals. When you can’t trust His hands, trust His heart.
Day 6: Today sing all 4 verses of “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” and be comforted by the lyrics.
Day 7: Rise early today and rejoice with singing. Worship and read God’s Word with your fellow Christians in a Bible Believing Church.
