Weekly Devo: Who Found Christmas?

Luke 2:16
“So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.”

On that wonderful Christmas night in Bethlehem, so many people were right next to the Savior but missed salvation completely. The Innkeeper, King Herod, the religious leaders and local townspeople missed Christmas but there were others who found Christmas.

The Wise men found Christmas and followed the star from heaven. They were not Jews, they didn’t understand Scripture but they were wise enough to follow the sign from heaven and seek the Messiah who was born under the magnificent star. Matthew 2:10 ”when they saw the star, they were overjoyed.”

The other people who were willing to obey and follow the angels’ announcement were the common shepherds out in the fields of Bethlehem. Some scholars believe that the shepherds were watching their flocks by night in the fields of Boaz found in the book of Ruth. Boaz was the Great grandfather of David the King. They heard the shouts of the angels. Scripture says they immediately went to the place where the baby laid. The shepherds found Christmas.

In both of these situations the Wise men and the Shepherds, heard the good news, obeyed and went. It didn’t matter if they were highly educated and wealthy like the Wise men with gifts for the child or had no education and poor without gifts, like the common shepherds. God seeks anyone who will come to Him.

This is the time to seek the Savior and find the real meaning of Christmas.
