PERSEVERANCE

James 1:3-4

“…because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

What does it mean to persevere?
Webster’s Dictionary (my favorite!) says to maintain a purpose in spite of difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement.

That’s it!
That is what we must do on a daily basis.

I tell my kids and my students, don’t say or think “I can’t!”
Instead, strive to think…..
           “I can!”   “I must!”
Don’t say: “This is too hard for me.”
Instead try to say……
“This is a challenge! But with God, we can do this!”

Everyone faces obstacles in life but we cannot allow the obstacles to destroy us.
Look at David and Goliath. David didn’t allow the giant stop the Lord’s army.
Or how about all of the obstacles Moses faced. He went to God and asked for wisdom and provision for his family and community.
He did not give up, quit or complain. He chose to be active, make decisions and move as God directed.

How about you?
Have you given up? Have you been deceived in believing there is no hope?
Be encouraged my friend. God is alive and active and calls you and I to persevere.

Read the following verses on perseverance and be encouraged. Take a moment to write on index cards the verse or verses that really catch your heart. Post the cards wherever you will be reminded of the blessings in persevering with God.

Hebrews 12:1
”Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us”

Hebrews 10:36
”You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”

James 1:12
”Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”

Today’s Thought:

God, help me have Your perspective on life and learn to persevere.
