1 Samuel 15:22
“Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice”
Read: 1 Samuel 14
Can you speak with bold confidence in the Lord like Jonathan
did in verse six of chapter fourteen?
“Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or
by few.”
APPLICATION:
As we walk out our faith in Jesus Christ it is very
important that we live a confident life in Him. God constantly reminds us in Scripture to read the Word of
God, pray and walk by faith, not by sight. Jonathan was boldly walking by
faith.
PRAYER:
Lord, forgive me for doubting you in the things I cannot
see. Help me be rest assured that you know what is best. I want to trust in You
and You alone Lord.
We read in verse thirty-five that this is Saul’s first time
to build an altar. Now of course, we are so thankful that he built this altar.
The sad point is the delay and length of time Saul took before he remembered to
worship and build an altar to give an his offering.
“Then Saul built an altar to the LORD; it was the first time
he had done this.”
(1 Samuel 14:35 NIV)
APPLICATION:
Time and time again we forget to go to God first with our
Praise and our prayer request. Now is the time to repent and change your life
forever.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I humbly come to you and ask for
forgiveness of my sins. It is my hearts desire to seek you first in all things
and remember your sacrifice for our sins.
How can the cross that bond You set me free? Thank you God for providing again!
1 Samuel 15
God gives Samuel clear and direct instructions for Saul in
the Battle with the Amalekites.
Verse 3:”Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy
everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them.”
As we read, Saul chooses to not obey God. Saul chose the
King and anything he thought was good to spare and killed everything and
everyone else that he thought was despised and weak.
Due to this intentional disobedience God tells Samuel and
Saul in 1 Samuel 15:11 “I am grieved that I have made Saul king, because he has
turned away from me and has not carried out my instructions.”
God calls Saul’s disobedience rebellion and rejects him as
king.
1 Samuel 15:22-23
“To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better
than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and
arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the words of the
Lord, he has rejected you as king.”
APPLICATION:
This is a very strong message from God and we need to read
it and heed it.
Saul’s disobedience was intentional and self-centered.
Selfish people do not make good leaders.
Over and over again we see God warning others through
Samuel.
Do you have a Samuel in your life? Do you have someone who
will guide you, keep you accountable, instruct you, rebuke you and intercede
for you in prayer?
Now is the time to begin praying for your mentor like Samuel
to be sent to you.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, thank you for my salvation. Forgive me Lord when
and where I have done things with the wrong motivations. Help me to find that mentor in my life
that will guide me into the godly person you created me to be.
In Jesus name I pray Amen.
