Speak Lord!

1 Samuel 3:10
“And the Lord came and called as before, ”Samuel, Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.”

Today we are reading Chapter Three of 1 Samuel where a young teenager hears the voice of God call out his name. In Chapter one and two we learned how strong Samuel's mother, Hannah, was in her prayer life and now it is Samuel's turn to do the same.
God spoke directly and audibly to Abraham and Moses but at this time in Scripture it has been centuries since the last time God has directly spoken to anyone.
It was God’s divine timing to now speak to Samuel and change his life and the lives of those around him.

This chapter was a reminder for me to intentionally listen for God’s voice to speak to me.
Do you and I pray with an attitude of “speak, Lord, your servant is listening” or “listen Lord, ‘cause your servant is speaking”?

The Lord spoke directly to Samuel because it was his personal time to answer God.
How about you?
Are you listening for God to speak?
Are you willing to spend time and listen for God’s voice?
Which one of the following sentences would you select to answer God’s call?
When God calls me by name………
  1. the line is busy, sorry God (1 Kings 20:40)
  2. I don’t hear the call (Ps.38:14)
  3. I answer but I’m not sure who is calling (Romans 1:21)
  4. I heard the call of God but I chose to ignore it. (Hebrews 2:3)
  5. I answer the call and willingly obey (1 Cor.1:24 and John 10:4,14)

Won’t you join me and with a heart of devotion and listen for the voice of God as He calls you and I by name. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. God still speaks.
As you and I read the Word of God and truly seek His will, He promises to speak to our hearts as we pray.

Speak Lord, I am listening!
