Trust Only In God

Reading for Today: 1 Samuel 4

Our June memory verse:

Colossians 1:10
"Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better."

Have you read the first three chapters of 1 Samuel yet?
Let’s review each Chapters lesson:
Chapter 1: Make the Right Choices
Chapter 2: Those who honor God will be honored
     Chapter 3: Speak Lord!
You will be encouraged as you read about the power of prayer and how God speaks to each one of us.

Chapter four has a different lesson for us to learn.
As we read through this chapter it is very clear the Israelites’ have chosen not to obey or seek God in their decisions.
The first wrong choice the nation of Israel made was going into battle without seeking God in prayer.
Their second action revealed how weak their relationship was with God.
They took along the Ark of the Covenant as a "good luck" box to help them win the next battle still not seeking the God in prayer or His Scriptures.
They were wrong.
They did not need a “Good Luck” Box to help them win their battle, they needed a personal relationship real and authentic with the Lord who is Holy and Just.
Instead of a fancy object or place to help them win the battle they needed the Holy Presence of God through worship and prayer.
Seeking the Lord was not on their radar screen and the consequences were devastating.
Their wrong choices cost many thousands of people their lives and God's Ark of the Covenant was captured by their enemies.

What can you and I learn from the Scriptures today?
What objects or special things were superstitious when you were growing up?
Are you still following them for good luck?
When have you trusted in symbols, rituals, or objects for help instead of completely depending on the Lord?

Jesus Christ is your salvation and hope and no other thing or person can compare.
I pray you and I will learn from the mistakes people made in Chapter four and pursue a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ and trust only in Him.

Today’s Application:

Psalm 20:7
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
