Olympic Excitement

Philippians 3:14

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

You hold your breath, “will they make it?” What a thrilling and suspenseful moment as you and the world watch the incredible talented Olympic athletes compete for the prize of a lifetime. They will never get this one chance again.

Most likely, your house is like ours, we shout, clap as loud as we can, and hoot and holler for the team or individual to cross that finish line and set a new world record.

You may even know someone who was blessed to buy a ticket and attend the games in London in person. Wouldn’t that be incredible!

Today I have a question for you to ponder and then truthfully answer as we compare and apply the Olympics to our Christian life.

In order to get into the 2012 London Olympics you will need to purchase a current ticket exclusively for these events. No matter who you are, what your name is or what you have accomplished, nothing will allow you to enter the games unless you have the correct ticket.

Question: Do you have the correct ticket for Heaven?

The only ticket into heaven is to repent from your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. This ticket is free just for the asking. Jesus Christ pre-paid the cost for you by giving His life on the cross, being buried and rising again. As you repent and  ask Him to be your personal Savior you receive the ticket to eternal life. Jesus is the only way (Ticket) into Heaven.

John 3:16 & 14:6; Romans 3:23 & 6:23 & 5:8 & 10:9-10,13

Question: Where are you in the participation of the events of life?

There are three main ways you can participate at an event of the Olympics:

1) Watching in the stands

2) On the Sidelines part of the Team

3) Presently in the game and competing

Question: Where are you in your life with God?

1) Are you a Christian but just sitting in the stands on the bleachers watching the other believers from a distance? Oh, you have the spirit and you’re encouraging the team of believers to be active but you just have no strength to step out yet. The “What If’s” are very scary and have kept you in the stands.

James 1:22 “Don’t just listen to God’s Word. You must do what it says.”

2) Have you stepped out of the bleachers and onto the sidelines as part of team ready to get involved? It just seems safer and less stressful to stand on the sidelines as you watch believers share, witness and stand for truth.  Are you saying “I could never do that?”

Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

3) Finally, there are many of you who are willingly on the team, working out and preparing for the game.  You are directly involved in sharing and standing for truth in a crazy and lost world. Being involved can bring injuries and disappointments but the blessings and rewards are always more powerful and sustainable. Are you willing to stay involved with a happy submissive spirit to the Lord’s call on your life, NO MATTER WHAT?   Isaiah 1:14 & 1 Timothy 6:12

So, I’m going to ask again. Where are you in your life with God?

Be honest and do a self-evaluation.

There is no better time than right now to change your position and stand for Jesus Christ by being involved and active in your walk through this life on the earth.

Be encouraged. Continue to grow closer to the Lord through your Bible Readings, memorizing Scripture, Serving and Praying.

There is no room for guilt, pride, bitterness or regrets at the foot of the cross.

Give it all to Jesus.
