Luke 2:8-10
“…They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t
be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all
people.”
Today we will dig into these three verses from Luke chapter
two and apply the Scripture to our own lives. These words are a witness
accountant that was recorded for all the world to read and ponder.
Verse 8: “That night there were shepherds staying in
the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep.”
Observations:
The Shepherds were where they were supposed to be and doing
what God had called them to do at that very moment in time. Because they were
being obedient and stayed, God showed up and revealed Himself to them.
FACT:
God will show up and reveal Himself to you in your obedience
to Him.
Application:
There is nowhere on this earth that the Lord cannot go or
cannot see. The Lord Jesus sees you wherever you are.
Verse 9: “Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among
them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were
terrified”
Observations:
When the angel of the Lord appeared they had a radiance of
the Lord’s glory never seen before by these shepherds.
FACT:
Angels are sent from God with a radiance of His glory and
with a message from Him.
When angels show up, if they are from God, they will reveal
God’s glory and shine with His radiance that is overwhelming and as we see
here, terrifying.
Application:
This Christmas does not need to be boring and dull. If we
seek God and worship Him and His Glory, like the shepherds, we will be changed
forever if we rest and stay where He has called us to be.
Verse 10: “but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!”
he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.”
Observation:
The first words the angel spoke were encouraging and comforting
to the shepherds. No condemnation or guilt.
FACT:
The true meaning of Christmas has never changed over the
thousands of years since that first night. Jesus Christ was born in a manger
for us to be saved from our sins and because He chose to leave heaven and come
down to earth we live in peace and have the hope of heaven. Twice the angel
proclaimed, “I bring.” God sent
the angel to bring GOOD NEWS and GREAT JOY!
Application:
You and I do not need to be afraid. With Jesus Christ as our
personal Savior we are promised the forgiveness of sins and the true gift of
salvation from hell.
This Christmas as you watch the Christmas story in a movie,
read the story or see a Manger Scene displayed, reflect on the verses of the
angels telling the shepherds “Don’t be afraid!”

If you have a relationship with Jesus Christ and struggle
with a particular situation or constantly fight fear and anxiety, these verses
are for you today. “Do not Fear” is a constant message in the Bible from the
Lord to His believers. It is a heart matter of choosing to completely trust in
the Lord of your life with your life.
You know it as truth, but may be fighting with the action of
giving God complete control. Don’t miss the last thirteen words in this verse.
“I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all
people.”
Only the good news of Jesus Christ will bring you GREAT JOY!
May I suggest you start today to memorize verse ten and hold
on to the truth of your Lord and Savior who is your GREAT JOY.
