Weekly Devo: Service

Joshua 24:11
As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”
In today’s world of business the focus is always about service. If the company gives 100% in their customer service and is constantly improving, they are ranked in the top ten businesses and remain everyone’s favorite. If a young adult chooses to sign up for the armed services for our country, they are required to give 100% of their energy and dedication to their commitment.

No one can go through life and not be serving someone or something. If you are single, you are either working or in school where you are serving that particular institution. If you are married you are serving at work and at home.

Ask yourself: When it comes to spiritual matters, whom do I serve? Can your family members, friends and neighbors recognize that you choose to serve the Lord? Could you use some improvement in this area?

Today is a new day so let’s start now and tell others who we serve.

Daily Application:
Day 1: Write out today’s verse on a 3x5 card and memorize.
Day 2: Pray continuously for the courage to talk to your family members and friends about this verse and how strongly you plan to serve God.
Day 3: Look for a small service project that you can do with a friend or with your family and set up a date of service. (Suggestions: search through your clothes and drop off your extra clothes at the Missions Center in your hometown, bake little brown bag lunches and distribute to the homeless or needy that you see time and time again, or call your church and ask for ways to help others, etc)
Day 4: Take the time to thank God for that special someone in your life (a parent or spouse) that served or is serving you. Then call them or write them a Thank you note, email or text.
Day 5: Spend today searching for a way to serve one other person or stranger. Do not expect anything in return for your act of service.
Day 6: Today spend some time in prayer and self-evaluate what you do with your time, energy, money and focus. Are you serving the Lord?
Day 7: Boldly repeat this week’s verse over and over again throughout your day out loud and silently in your heart and mind.

Be encouraged! As you follow God and make Him Lord of your life you will be blessed with His presence and peace.
