Psalm 139:13-16
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful. I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.”
It is my honor to have a guest writer for the devotional this week. Week after week, our precious daughter calls us from college and shares another fascinating fact she has discovered about God in her cell biology science classes. I wanted to share her inspiring letter to God with you. It is always encouraging to see the next generation being thankful to God and acknowledging his greatness and position as the God of all creation.
Dear God,
Wow. How do I even begin to express my amazement with your creations? I do not understand how people can enter the world of science and choose to not believe in your Majesty and most importantly, your existence. Every day I go to class, I am once again amazed at how you have intricately designed each and every component, fiber, and cell of our bodies. Just look at the embryo cells as they begin migrating throughout the newly forming body. The cells are specific as to where they are going and what they will become. These cells will only differentiate into the various tissues they are designed for if they are in the right location. How do these cells know where to go, when to differentiate, and what to become? Science cannot answer these questions. Only you can! My biochemistry teacher stood in front of the class and said, “If you can’t see the greater designer working here then you must be asleep because His work is everywhere.” She could not have been more correct. You continually instruct the cells, proteins, and molecules of our body where to go and what to do daily and it blows my mind. Not one person of earthly existence could ever begin to try to create this network of perfection. Only the God of the universe could create this world, and do it all in 7 days.
I love how the entire body is mainly (there are other elements and compounds involved as well) based off of four molecules, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon. These four atoms work together in millions of ways through different processes and actions to create the human body. WOW GOD! How do you do it? How do you create works of art from such small molecules in so many various ways? How do you create such an intricately designed system, such as the nervous system, that we may never know the full extent of its abilities? You are the ultimate biologist, chemist, and physicist. There is no way that I could not believe in your power, majesty, and perfection being in the science world. One day when I am finally an Optometrist I plan to share with others in my practice, how great a designer you really are. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to dwell in your creativity.
Humbled Continually,
Joanna
