1 Samuel 9
John 15:16
“You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go
and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask
for, using my name.”
Let’s look at the chain of events in Saul’s life as God moves
him to where he needs him to be.
1. Saul’s father Kish is from the Benjamin tribe.
2. Kish asks Saul to travel and find his lost donkey.
3. Saul travels the hill country but cannot find his
father’s donkey.
4. Saul wants to give up but his servant suggests they find
and ask the seer for help.
5. Saul and the servant entered the next town and pass by in
front of Samuel.
6. God tells Samuel to talk to Saul.
7. Samuel tells him where the lost donkey is and his divine message
from God.
8. Samuel invites Saul to a big dinner that God told him to
prepare the day before.
You see, all along God planned every move of Samuel and Saul
to bring them together at a divine appointed time.
What can we learn from this chapter:
1. We learned in verse one that Saul was from the tribe of
Benjamin just as God said he would be in verse fifteen and sixteen.
We can trust God to keep his word and His promises. Psalm
145:13
2. God used the wealth of Saul’s father to have animals that
needed Saul’s attention.God will use anything to get our attention and put us on the
right path.Prov.3:5-6
3. God took the difficult time of a lost donkey and turned
it into the very thing that would place Saul on the path to Samuel.
God works in and through our tough times or lose, failure,
death and destruction.
God is always working in our lives through the good and the
bad times.
Romans 8:28
4. God surrounded Saul with a servant who gave good advice
and kept Saul on the path to God’s prophet instead of giving up. (Once again we
see God providing).
God will provide good and godly friends and counsel if we
seek Him and His people in His places and surrender to His will. 1 Cor. 15:33
and Prov. 17:17
